The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in Lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Major (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] George B. Moore (ASN: 0-360213), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the Company I, 45th Infantry Regiment, Philippine Scouts, in action at Abucay, Bataan, Philippine Islands, on 24 – 25 January 1942. Major Moore volunteered to remain with a very small force fighting a delaying action against a numerically superior enemy, and, through his courageous actions, inspired the forces to delay the enemy sufficiently to permit the orderly withdrawal of larger forces. Major Moore’s actions contributed much to the prolonged defense of the Philippine Islands. His gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
