The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General [then Colonel (Infantry)] Bryant Edward Moore (ASN: 0-8633), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding Officer of the 164th Infantry Regiment from 1942 to 1943. Brigadier General Moore’s regiment was the first Army contingent in ground combat with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, and under his leadership distinguished itself in defense of Henderson Field and counterattacked in October 1942, in the successful offensive near Koli Point in November, and in the brilliant defense of a major portion of the American position west of the Matanikau River from 21 November 1942 to 16 December 1942. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Brigadier General Moore and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
