The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Halley Grey Maddox (ASN: 0-12852), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in duties of great responsibility from 1 September 1950 to 31 January 1959. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Maddox and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. [This award supersedes the award of the Legion of Merit (Second Oak Leaf Cluster), for service from 3 August 1953 to 27 July 1954, as published in General Orders Number 28, Headquarters, United States Army Forces, Far East and EIGHTH United States Army, 25 January 1955.)
