The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Rudolph E. Klostermann (ASN: 32864294), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action on 18 June 1944, at Normandy, France. When a member of his patrol was seriously wounded by enemy machine-gun fire, Private First Class Klostermann, ignoring his own personal safety, unhesitatingly moved across exposed terrain and carried his injured comrade to a position of safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

Klostermann (ASN: 32864294), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Europe from 25 July 1944 to 14 September 1944. The skillful, dependable, and courageous manner in which Private Klostermann performed his duties as rifleman contributed immeasurably to the combat efficiency of his organization during the invasion of Western Europe. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
