The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Brigadier General Kester Lovejoy Hastings (ASN: 0-12219), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Quartermaster, Far East Command, in action against the enemy in Korea, in 1950. General Hastings voluntarily, and with complete disregard for his safety, made daring trips through areas under constant guerrilla attack to obtain an accurate estimate of the situation vital to solving many complex problems that occur in logistical support during such critical periods. His presence in the forward areas under constant threat of enemy air attack and fire inspired personnel of the Quartermaster Corps to greater achievements and was a contributing factor in resolving supply problems, thus aiding united Nations’ forces in the subsequent launching of a counteroffensive. General Hastings through his valor and tireless devotion to duty, reflected great credit on himself and upheld the highest traditions of the military service.
