Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 257 (July 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Myron Kuzyk (ASN: 0-1080214), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division. During a dawn attack against Heppenheim, Germany, on 27 March 1945, First Lieutenant Kuzyk, observing a group of nine enemy soldiers in position along a tree-lined road threatening his flank, moved on these Germans alone. Taking one German prisoner and shooting another, he advanced to within 75 yards of the enemy before receiving fire. Then, while relentlessly pushing ahead 25 yards further by moving from tree to tree, he was shot and killed. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
