Headquarters, II Field Force Vietnam, General Orders No. 1986 (December 28, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Armor) Jarrett J. Robertson (ASN: OF-110415), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 9 November 1968 while serving as the commanding officer of Troop B, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the republic of Vietnam. On this date, Troop B was engaged in combat with an enemy force near Loc Ninh. After the commander of Troop B suffered fatal wounds, Captain Robertson was ordered to leave his position as squadron S-4 and assume command of the unit. Upon arriving at the battle scene, Captain Robertson discovered that the unit was very disorganized. He quickly and professionally demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in gaining control of the situation. As the contact progressed, Captain Robertson moved from position to position under a relentless hail of enemy small arms, automatic weapons and antitank rocket fire giving instructions thus serving as a source of inspiration to his new command. Throughout the contact, Captain Robertson’s outstanding leadership ability and mature decisions were instrumental in turning back the enemy attackers. Captain Robertson’s personal bravery and heroic leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
