The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Frank H. Bloom (ASN: ER-13233308), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 February 1951, in the vicinity of Chonyon-ni, Korea. Sergeant Bloom was the leader of a squad in attack. Under heavy enemy small arms fire, Sergeant Bloom voluntarily exposed himself to the enemy while directing the operations of his men. Without regard for his personal safety and despite a wound inflicted by an enemy grenade, Sergeant Bloom boldly led a charge on the enemy positions with fixed bayonets. Inspired by the fearless courage of their squad leader, his men rushed forward and routed the enemy from his positions with heavy losses. As a result of this aggressive action, the company succeeded in wresting its objective, a high hill, from the enemy. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Bloom reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
