Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 116 (May 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Solomon Seltzer (ASN: 32242547), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 10 February, 1945. Private Seltzer displayed great courage when he volunteered to paddle an assault boat across an estuary in order to evacuate five wounded men, although he knew his route was covered by intense fire from enemy automatic weapons. His bold action enabled the injured men to receive badly needed medical attention. Later, he again volunteered to cross the river to carry important information to an officer. When he was within 30 yards of his objective, enemy automatic weapons opened up on his boat, the bullets striking the water all around the craft. In spite of this heavy fire, Private Seltzer continued on and successfully completed his mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
