The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Irvin M. Frost (ASN: 35009523), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 9 and 24 February 1945. On patrol, 9 February, Private Frost discovered that one of his companions was wounded and lay in an artillery impact area. Accompanied by three men, he rushed one hundred and fifty yards under heavy fire to carry his comrade to safety, then rejoined the patrol to complete his combat mission. On 24 February Private Frost advanced one hundred yards under Japanese mortar and machine gun fire to repair an observation post communication line enabling his platoon to fire their mortars effectively. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
