The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles Woleslagle (ASN: 33412494), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 11 October 1944 in the vicinity of Maizieres les Metz, France. During an attack on the town, vital communication lines were repeatedly cut by enemy shell fragments. For a period of four days and nights, Private First Class Woleslagle, Messenger, reconnoitered the wire lines and repaired the breaks. While he carried out this mission which was not his by assignment, he, at risk of his life, traversed open areas and was subjected to intense enemy fire. By his prolonged display of courage and complete devotion to duty in maintaining constant communication, the company was able to take its objective. His gallantry was in accordance with high military tradition.
