The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class U. D. Perkins (ASN: 34636003), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 26 November 1944 in the vicinity of Butzdorf, Germany. In the early action against a strong enemy position, Private First Class Perkins, Wireman, maintained wire communications so expertly that the mortar platoon, of which he was a member, was able to destroy two enemy machine gun nests and disable one armored vehicle. Later, at risk of his life, he obtained an automatic weapon, helped hold a flank by accurate fire and then made a valuable report of the situation to the Company Command Post. His gallantry was in accordance with high military traditions.
