Private Benrud distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Magneta Farm, France, 1 November 1918. With other members of his section, Private Benrud charged and captured a battery of artillery that the enemy were attempting to remove.
