Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 52 (July 29, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class John G. Dimitroff (ASN: 36883054), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Le Bourge, Normandy, France, on 27 June 1944. Although constantly shelled by enemy artillery and mortars, he, unmindful of personal safety, cleared a wide path through a densely sown mine field, thereby greatly accelerating the advance of infantry assault units. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
