Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 5 (February 1, 1946)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Henry P. Dolan (ASN: 31401484), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Geishach, Germany, on 24 March 1945. When an assault platoon was impeded by an intense machine gun concentration from strongly fortified enemy emplacements, Sergeant Dolan, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously crossed perilous terrain to an exposed vantage point. Then, despite a heavy self-propelled weapons barrage, he directed accurate fire and destroyed the hostile strongpoints, thereby contributing immeasurably to his organization’s seizure of an important objective. His gallant actions and outstanding initiative were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
