The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Cecil B. Slusher (ASN: 35931206), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division. In mid-morning of 27 March 1945 when their platoon was forced to withdraw temporarily under tank attack, Private Slusher and another soldier, radio-men, remained behind to seek out means and place to prevent an enemy breakthrough. Moving 150 yards through heavy fire, he brought up a bazooka team only to have it shelled and forced out of action. They then moved 200 yards under rifle and 88-mm. fire to a building ahead of the approaching tanks. There Private Slusher and the other soldier again moved out, secured Anti-Tank bazooka team and returned in time to bring the enemy attack to a standstill. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
