The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward A. Myer (ASN: 0-2028729), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In the early morning hours of 26 November 1952, a platoon of Company K, 3d Battalion, of which Lieutenant Myer was platoon leader, was assigned the mission of defending friendly positions on “Jackson Heights”, in the vicinity of Hak Tong-Ni, Korea. While defending the objective, the platoon was subjected to an intense attack by enemy forces. Lieutenant Myer exposed himself to these forces, directing the fire of his men and calling in accurate and effective artillery fire. When his platoon was ordered to return to friendly lines, he remained behind to care for a d supervise the evacuation of the wounded. During this action, Lieutenant Myer carried one of the casualties down the hill and was last seen returning for another wounded man. As a result of Lieutenant Myer’s action, his platoon was enabled to disengage with the enemy, suffering a minimum of casualties and all the wounded were safely evacuated. Lieutenant Myer’s outstanding gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
