After graduating from high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Robert alspaugh attended the Univesity of Tula and then graduated from Northeastern Oiklahoma A&M College and Northwestn University. During World War I he served in France as a staff sergeant in the Army Medical Corps.He received a Bachelor of Divinity from Garrett Biblical Institue in 1932. As a member of the Erast Oklahoma Conference of the Methodist Church, he served many pastorates in Oklahoma and was a member of the International Council of Religious Education. During World War II, after completing the Chaplain School at Harvard Univesity, he was commissioned in the Army Chaplain’s Corps, and went overseas in August 1943. He was killed in action in Italy on January 16, 1944.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Robert E. Lee Alspaugh, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Chaplain with the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, in action in Italy, on 16 January 1944. Chaplain Alspaugh was killed while performing his dutiesd while the station was under an intense concentration of enemy artillery fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by, Chaplain Alspaugh without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
