The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Air Corps) Clinton F. Woolsey, U.S. Army Air Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight. Capitan Woolsey, as one of the pilots of the airplane DETROIT, during the Pan American flight starting on 21 December 1926, displayed initiative, resourcefulness, and a high degree of skill under the many trying conditions encountered. Tireless energy, sound judgment and personal courage characterized his contribution to the success of the expedition until February 26, 1927, when due to an accident at Buenos Aries, Argentina, resulting in the complete destruction of his airplane, he made the supreme sacrifice. In the efficient performance of his arduous duties he aided in the accomplishment of an exploit which brought great credit to himself and the Army of the United States.
