The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant John J. Seybuck, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy in 1943. When a stove exploded and gasoline ignited the clothing of a brother Infantryman, Sergeant Seybuck wrapped the victim in a blanket, extinguishing he flames. His prompt action, with disregard of the danger to himself, prevented severe injury and possible death of the victim. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Staff Sergeant Seybuck reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
