Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 7510 (October 21, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Randy L. Moore (ASN: US-54664199), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Private First Class Moore distinguished himself by heroic actions on 13 May 1968, while serving with Provisional Company, 125th Signal Battalion, in the Republic of Vietnam. A numerically superior hostile force launched an intense attack on the Nui Ba Den communication site. During the ensuing battle, Private Moore, with complete disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to a heavy volume of hostile fire as he secured two cases of M-79 ammunition, and returned to a point overlooking the helipad where the enemy had set up a mortar section. Fearlessly, Private Moore began placing effective M-79 fire on the hostile forces, destroying the mortars and inflicting heavy casualties. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the defeat of the enemy force. Private Moore’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
