    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward C. Jantz (ASN: 12011514), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to May 1943. When his sergeant was severely wounded by enemy artillery fire, Private Jantz crossed open terrain and obtained assistance in evacuating the wounded man. His unselfish action exemplified the highest traditions of the military service and reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
