    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander John Everett Plummer (NSN: 0-85261), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Engineer and Diving Officer on board the U.S.S. NARWHAL (SS-167), during the FOURTH, FIFTH, SIXTH, SEVENTH, EIGHTH, and NINTH War Patrols of that submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters from 30 April 1943 to 15 February 1944. Through his excellent supervision of the engineering plant of the ship throughout this period, Lieutenant Commander Plummer contributed materially to the success of the NARWHAL in carrying out her missions and, in addition, rendered valuable service as Diving Officer during numerous attacks and counterattacks. His professional skill, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
