(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Rear Admiral George Read Muse (NSN: 0-81099), United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 7 September 1965 to 9 September 1966, while serving as Chief of Staff and Aide to Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander George Read Muse (NSN: 0-81099), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. STEPHEN POTTER (DD-538) in action against the enemy in the Western Pacific from 28 December 1944 to 17 April 1945. On 20 – 21 March 1945, while covering the retirement of damaged units his destroyer shot down one enemy plane and assisted in the destruction of several others when the Task Group fought off numerous attacks by enemy planes. His courage, leadership and devotion to duty during these actions were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
