The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Eugene Ives Malone, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Torpedo Data Computer Operator in the U.S.S. SILVERSIDES (SS-236), during the TENTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 26 April 1944 to 11 June 1944. His skill and high degree of proficiency in operating the Torpedo Data Computer contributed directly to his vessel’s success in sinking five enemy ships totaling 23,600 tons and damaging three additional enemy ships totaling 18,000 tons.
