The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Leslie J. Lindhe, United States Navy, for gallantry in action as a Medical Corpsman and a member of the crew of the submarine U.S.S. CROAKER (SS-246) during the FIRST War Patrol in enemy-controlled waters from 19 July 1944 to 31 August 1944. His professional ability, exceptional skill and tireless devotion to duty were of utmost assistance to the success of his vessel’s patrol during which the ship sank more than 17,000 tons of enemy shipping. His cool efficiency and leadership contributed much to the success of the ship in evading severe enemy countermeasures. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
