(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Hospitalman Apprentice First Class Robert Ferdinand Lang, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Regimental Aid Station, while serving with the 1st Battalion, Twenty-Third Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, at Saipan, on 15 June 1944. Although wounded, Corpsman Lang refused to withdraw and steadily administered first aid to wounded Marines, saving the lives of many before he himself succumbed to his wounds. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
