Donald Kable graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1940. He retired as a U.S. Navy Commander.
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Donald Mark Kable (NSN: 0-85196-1100), United States Navy, for gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy in the line of his profession as Assistant Approach Officer and later as Diving Officer during Submarine War Patrols in enemy controlled waters. His knowledge and judgment were of great assistance to his Commanding Officer during these patrols which resulted in sinking over 84,000 tons of enemy shipping and damaging over 83,00 tons. His conduct throughout these patrols was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
