    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Nicholas Dashko (NSN: 0-282800), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the U.S.S. ASPRO (SS-309), during the SEVENTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the Sagami Wan area, from 25 June 1945 to 13 August 1945. As Officer-of-the-Deck, his skillful navigation of his ship assisted his Commanding Officer considerably in rescuing a downed aviator in confined waters while being bombed and strafed by enemy planes. His coolness and high devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading severe enemy countermeasures. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
