The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Lieutenant (MC) Manne Perry Adams (NSN: 0-114093), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity and devotion to duty as a Medical Officer during action against numerically superior enemy Japanese forces near Koiagi, Bougainville, British Solomon Islands, on 29 November 1943. While attached to a company which was under extremely heavy enemy machine gun, mortar and sniper fire, Lieutenant Adams repeatedly treated wounded men while under fire. On one occasion, he went directly into the fire lane of an enemy sniper, with full knowledge of what he was doing and against the objections of several of his comrades, to administer blood plasma to a severely wounded man. While administering this treatment, Lieutenant Adams was himself instantly killed by sniper fire. His heroic conduct, at the sacrifice of his own life, was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
