    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Commander [then Lieutenant Commander] Albert Schorr Fuhrman (NSN: 0-78861), United States Navy, for meritorious service as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. JACK (SS-259), during the SEVENTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters, from 27 October to 24 December 1944. Successfully penetrating a strong enemy escort screen, Commander Fuhrman pressed home two daring torpedo attacks in extremely shallow waters, sinking a 4,000-ton enemy freighter and damaging an additional 4,000-ton vessel. By his skillful evasive tactics, he directed his ship in escaping damage from enemy counter-attacks and his devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander [then Lieutenant Commander] Albert Schorr Fuhrman (NSN: 0-78861), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. GUITARRO (SS-363), during the FIRST War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters from 7 May to 27 June 1944. Skillfully training the fire control party and coordinating its activities during combat, Commander Fuhrman rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer when his ship was firing torpedoes and undergoing severe anti-submarine measures, thereby contributing to the success of the patrol during which 21,000 tons of hostile shipping and one destroyer were sunk. His ability, leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Commander [then Lieutenant Commander] Albert Schorr Fuhrman (NSN: 0-78861), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Executive Officer, Navigator and Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. GUITARRO (SS-363), in action against enemy Japanese forces during the SECOND War Patrol of that Submarine in the South China Sea from 21 July to 8 September 1944. Through his excellent judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems, together with his skillful navigation of the ship, Commander Fuhrman materially assisted his Commanding Officer in conducting torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of a total of 11,800 tons of hostile shipping, including two destroyers, and the damaging of an additional 10,000 tons, including a light cruiser. His outstanding skill and courageous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Commander Albert Schorr Fuhrman (NSN: 0-78861), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the U.S.S. STURGEON (SS-187), during the THIRD War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy controlled waters from 15 March to 7 May 1942. As Communications Officer, his skillful supervision and excellent coordination of communications throughout the ship, and inspiring leadership of communication personnel, assisted his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the sinking of one enemy ship and damaging another for a total damage to the enemy of 10,000 tons sunk and 7,000 tons damaged. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
