Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, General Orders No. 45 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Julius A. Rodzvilla, United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with combat operations against the enemy while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in the drive to liberate Manila, Philippine Islands, on the morning 4 February 1945. Private First Class Rodzvilla, a radio operator, moved with his troop in the advance when a fierce artillery and rocket barrage burst on his troop. A shell which burst in a nearby tree wounded him and put his radio temporarily out of commission. Realizing that his set was the only means of communication with friendly troops, he repaired it and established communication with higher echelon, refusing medical aid until American artillery could be registered in on the enemy positions. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
