The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Ricky Wayne Tedder (ASN: US-56928872), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Tedder distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 15 March 1968, while serving as a team leader with Company E, 52d Infantry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during a combat mission in the Republic of Vietnam. When his team became heavily engaged with a large enemy force and sustained several casualties, Sergeant Tedder exposed himself to the hostile fire as he engaged the enemy positions and succeeded in capturing a hostile soldier. Moving through the enemy fire, he reached his wounded comrades and administered first aid in an exposed area. His courageous action contributed greatly to the successful completion of his unit’s mission. Sergeant Tedder’s gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
