The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” (Navy Award) to Colonel Nasis J. Anton, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Ordnance Officer of the Tactical Air Force, TENTH Army, during all phases of the Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands operation, from 18 December 1944 to 30 June 1945. Colonel Anton organized and maintained a highly efficient air ordnance service for the land-based air forces and on many occasions rendered valuable assistance to units afloat. In the staging area he wrote the ordnance annex to the operations plan and arranged for the procurement, echelonment, and replenishment of aviation ordnance supplies required throughout the operation, cooperating effectively with representatives of the joint Army, Navy, and Marine Corps command. Landing on Okinawa with the assault echelon, he fearlessly expedited the distribution of ordnance supplies to all units, traveling frequently through territory where snipers were active, working on ammunition ships and bomb dumps, undeterred by the danger of frequent air attacks. He supervised the unloading and storing of bombs and ammunition and, working closely with the tactical units aided in the development of aviation ordnance installations and techniques. Through his high professional attainments and zealous devotion to duty, he contributed substantially to the success of the Tactical Air Force, and his conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Military Service.
