Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 154 (June 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Lee A. Braswell (ASN: 0-1825316), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company B, 23d Infantry Regiment< 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 9 February 1951, near Wonju, Korea. On that date he was the platoon leader of a weapons platoon which had the mission of assisting an assault upon enemy held hill 424. During the initial stages of the action a platoon leader in another platoon was wounded, and the platoon became disorganized. Realizing the danger of the situation, Lieutenant Braswell voluntarily left the security of his defilade position, and advanced forward in the face of murderous automatic weapons fire in order to reorganize the platoon. Exposing himself constantly to close range enemy fire, he went from man to man, encouraging and directing their fire. The gallantry and outstanding leadership displayed by Lieutenant Braswell were instrumental in allowing the unit to withdraw with a minimum of casualties and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
