Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 1958 (February 21, 1970

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Warrant Officer Norwood R. Richardson, United States Army, for gallantry in action on 31 January 1970, while serving as a Pilot with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. While flying an aerial observation mission, Warrant Officer Richardson observed elements of the 3d Battalion, 22d Infantry come in contact with a large enemy force. Without hesitation and with complete disregard for his own safety, Warrant Officer Richardson flew over the well concealed enemy positions in order to give the locations to the ground commander. Although the object of intense enemy fire he continued his low level passes to mark the enemy positions. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission and the defeat of the hostile force. Warrant Officer Richardson’s bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
