Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 123 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Guy A. Davis, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with a tank battalion of the 25th Infantry Division, in action on Luzon during World War II. Directing and controlling fire on enemy positions as platoon leader of an assault gun platoon, Lieutenant Davis received word that a tank commander had been seriously wounded. Lieutenant Davis left his covered position and ran across 30 yards of open ground to the rear of the tank and assisted in removing the wounded officer from the turret and helped carry him to a safe position. Later, in the Division’s fighting in the rugged Caraballo mountains of northern Luzon, Lieutenant Davis, while on a direct fire mission with infantry troops, helped save a wounded man by carrying him across one hundred yards of open terrain. Lieutenant Davis shielded the wounded man from sniper fire, using his body and with the aid of another officer carried the wounded soldier to safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
