The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Charlie B. Treadaway (ASN: 38569439), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with the enemy while serving with Cannon Company, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, on 5 June 1945, in the vicinity of Mulfingen, Germany. While swimming in the Jagst River with two other men, Private First Class Treadaway saw one of the men struggling in panic and going under. He immediately swam to him and, fighting off the man’s panic-stricken attempts to resist, towed him to shore. There he applied artificial respiration until the man had regained consciousness. The heroic act of Private First Class Treadaway saved the life of a fellow soldier and reflects credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
