The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert L. Brown (ASN: 0-1326315), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 17 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ommersheim, Germany. Lieutenant Brown led his company into the attack on the Siegfried Line, displaying great courage and leadership. He led the assault teams and brought about the capture of nine enemy pillboxes, two machine gun emplacements, and twenty-five prisoners. On one occasion, he personally destroyed with grenades an enemy machine gun and its crew of five. Although there were different assault teams used within the company, he personally led each one in the accomplishment of its particular mission. The intrepidity displayed by Lieutenant Brown throughout this action reflects the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
