The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Robert L. McIntosh (ASN: 35073314), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 25 April 1945, in the vicinity of Leipheim, Germany. During an enemy infantry and tank attack, Sergeant McIntosh refused to withdraw and held his position under concentrated enemy artillery and small arms fire. Observing an enemy tank approaching, Sergeant McIntosh, with utter disregard for his own safety, waited until the tank came within twenty-five yards of him and then fired two anti-tank rifle grenades scoring direct hits. This accurate fire caused the tank to withdraw. His gallant action and outstanding devotion to duty reflects high credit upon Sergeant McIntosh and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
