The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Lascoe Gilbert (ASN: 39467670), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 16 February 1945, in the vicinity of Bliesbrucken Woods, Germany. When his unit was held up by an enemy machine gun position, Private First Class Gilbert, without regard for his personal safety and under intense enemy fire, seized a light machine gun and fiercely assaulted the enemy position firing his weapon from the hip. Through his courageous act the enemy position was destroyed and his unit enabled to continue their advance. Private First Class Gilbert’s gallantry reflects the highest credit upon himself and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
