The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Warren C. Stout (ASN: 0-2011765), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 16 April 1945, in the vicinity of Waldenburg, Germany. When the first platoon of his company was pinned down on the slope of a hill by intense enemy artillery, mortar, and machine gun fire, Lieutenant Stout at once moved his weapons platoon forward in order to eliminate the enemy positions. Although early in the action he was severely wounded in the arm and face by shell fragments, he refused to be evacuated until his platoon had begun to fire on enemy positions. His actions required his movement twice, while under fire and wounded, over a route 400 yards in length. Lieutenant Stout’s courage and leadership reflect high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
