The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Raymond L. Barry (ASN: 33766823), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 4 April 1945, in the vicinity of Billingheim, Germany. As operator of a battalion net central station, Private First Class Barry Displayed great initiative when enemy sniper fire pinned down the Battalion Commander and a reconnaissance group. Private First Class Barry called fire commands to the mortar gunners who destroyed the snipers. During this action, the antenna and case of the radio were hit by enemy fire. The intrepidity with which Private First Class Barry accomplished his mission was an inspiration to all those who witnessed his action, reflects high credit upon himself, and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
