The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Sol Caplan (ASN: 37723362), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 7 April 1945, in the vicinity of Kressbach, Germany. Private Caplan, with the aid of one other man, stemmed the infiltration of an enemy patrol by killing six of the enemy and capturing thirteen. This action averted possible disaster to the company and saved the lives of many men. Private Caplan was killed in a subsequent action. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Private Caplan reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
