The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) James M. Boyd (ASN: 0-24168), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 3d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 16 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ommersheim, Germany. Captain Boyd, as Commanding Officer of Company K, personally led an assault through a wooded and mined area under intense enemy fire. A large number of the enemy were captured or wounded and an entire field artillery battalion was disabled. His personal direction and leadership during the attack were outstanding and enabled his company to reach and hold its objective promptly and with minimum casualties. The devotion to duty and outstanding gallantry in action displayed by Captain Boyd are in accord with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
