The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Ambrose L. Forbis (ASN: 372065115), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, on 11 September 1944 in France. While leading a reconnaissance patrol into the town of Neufchateau, Sergeant Forbis voluntarily infiltrated enemy lines and advanced to within fifty yards of an enemy road block,, which was known to be well-entrenched and powerfully manned. He unhesitatingly crossed open terrain, under enemy observation to gain vital information as to the strength and disposition of enemy installations. His complete disregard for his own safety and his courageous conduct in the face of grave danger reflect highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
