The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant George H. Dall (ASN: 32463498), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 23 September 1944 while serving with Company L, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division, south of Castel del Rio, Italy. On the night of 23 September 1944, Sergeant Dall was in command of a machine gun section assigned to the support of a rifle platoon in the attack south of Castel del Rio. On contacting the enemy, Sergeant Dall immediately placed his guns into action and succeeded in knocking out one enemy machine gun and killed or wounded five Germans. On attempting to move forward, several casualties were suffered from an intense barrage of enemy machine gun fire. Orders were given to take up defensive positions. After organizing his position, Sergeant Dall made three hazardous trips forward under the continued murderous enemy machine gun fire and bravely rescued two of his comrades who were critically wounded. His actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the armed forces.
