Captain Williams distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Pilot with the 606th Air Commando Squadron, 56th Air Commando Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, Nakhon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action against the enemy over Southeast Asia on 29 April 1967. Captain Williams flew his single-engine, propeller-driven airplane through a shower of flares dropped by his fellow airmen above him, and braved a blistering hail of fire from the enemy in order to blast his target. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Williams, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
