    Major

    Action Date:

    February 1, 1968

Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Order G-1361 (May 7, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Evans Elmer Warne (AFSN: 0-54430), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as Forward Air Controller directing fighter aircraft near Baria, Republic of Vietnam, on 1 February 1968. On that date, a friendly force was being attacked by a superior size hostile force. Major Warne, making use of his superior aerial skill and techniques and in complete disregard for his own personal safety, dropped flares and marked unfriendly positions so that fighter aircraft could direct their attacks. Even though Major Warne was under intense anti-aircraft fire, he succeeded in directing the fighter aircraft in their attacks and turned certain annihilation into a successful repel of the hostile force. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Warne has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
