John DeBarr was enrolled in Bucknell University when World War II broke out, and left his studies to enlist in the Marine Corps, returning to complete his B.A. degree in 1947. Prior to retiring as a U.S. Marine Corps Brigadier General, he served as Director for the Judge Advocate Division, Headquarters Marine Corps, and Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
